Sharing Homes is a short, shared residency, facilitated by Aviv Sheyn. It is an invitation to join a temporary collective.
In a recent lecture in Berlin, the French theorist Julia Kristeva outlined some thoughts about culture and freedom. Among the many points that she addressed, she stated that freedom is the ability to share a creative singularity, in relationship with others.
This idea of creativity as a relationship underlies Sharing Homes. How can we actually share? How can we connect our symbolic landscapes? If freedom is indeed a relationship, what kind of being together can support it? Is it openness, softness, honesty?
In Sharing Homes, we will search for ways of being and creating in which we can share our depth in a collective way. We will open our rooms to each other and slowly form together a combined little home.
You are invited to be a participant in this process — to make a home, through contributing, combining, and sharing.
A home is a place of privacy, a place of trust. When I show you my room, my home, I show you also the way my body exists in space, the way I spend my time. When you show me your home, you show me your uniqueness, your energy, your personal history.
A home contains multitudes — objects, memories, clothes, books, spirits. How can we invite each other to each others’ rooms, into each others’ homes? Can this exist as an artistic act?
Sharing Homes will be an attempt to explore the possibility of hosting as an artistic act and creative process. Rather then coming out we will be inviting in.
We will benefit from body and energetic practices, rituals, softness and listening and aim to make a space for all to share their own creative impulses.
A temporary collective
Participating in Sharing Homes is an open invitation to join a temporary collective, which will exist for six days. We will live together, dance, make food, go for walks, perform, create, play cards...
We will work with scores and invitations from our individual backgrounds. We will also work in relation with Ponderosa’s history and surroundings — the spaces, the Living Library, the landscape.
We will work with the idea of creating spaces, both personal and collective. We also talk and think about a larger context of society, community, and lived experience. We can also have time to watch a movie, or the stars. We include all.
Apply to participate
You are invited to come and join Sharing Homes as a collaborative environment. The residency has a limited group size, and we encourage interested potential participants to contact us as soon as is practicable, in order not to disappoint.
If you are interested to join the residency, please send an email with some words about yourself and your curiosity in the idea, as well as any questions you may have.
