For the last decade, the P.O.R.C.H. program has always happened in Stolzenhagen, at Ponderosa. But we have always imagined the possibility that P.O.R.C.H. can be more like a state of mind — and that it can happen anywhere in the world.
And with this in mind, we are very happy that the first module of P.O.R.C.H. in 2020 — the P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module — will be happening from January 26. to February 16. 2020, at the Living Forest, Lake Arenal, Costa Rica.
Facilitated by Estefania Dondi, Stephanie Maher, and Kathleen Hermesdorf, this module will focus on body-based improvisation and shared social practices as a wellspring for artistic possibilities.

P.O.R.C.H. is hitting the road...
The P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module instigates a collaborative meeting ground where internationally-renowned facilitators, practitioners, and teachers offer a creative experience to all who wish to deepen their commitment to their work and life. And in 2020, we will be taking Ponderosa’s spirit to Costa Rica.
We will be living, cooking, dancing and discussing art-life processes together, at the beautiful and rustic Living Forest centre, in Lake Arenal, Costa Rica. We will investigate the possibilities of the independent art, dance, and movement communities of Costa Rica, and the Americas more generally. We hope to share trans-disciplinary dance practices with one another in this international context.
We hope to engage all who wish to participate in an ongoing conversation. We hope to gather, to activate — to be aware of who is not able to gather, and to encourage relationships and practices that can be sustainable.
Additionally: we are looking to collaborate with organisations in Costa Rica that are interested in working with us in exploring sustainability, activism, and social engagement, as it relates to art and movement. Please email us with any thoughts that you might have. Thanks!
A place for gathering
During the P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module, Stephanie Maher, Kathleen Hermesdorf, and Estafania Dondi will host and facilitate an exchange with other Central-American teachers and artists.
We will lead three hours of facilitated group work every day, focusing on practices that are grounded in the body and its intuition, in inquiry, and in instinctive action. In collaboration with dancers and choroegraphers from the Lake Arenal region, we will widen our base of artistic research and practice, and explore communal concerns of professional development, embodiment, accessibility, and sustainability.
The P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module will be a place for gathering, for assembling material, for co-ordinating a frame for exposure and participation, for real practice with our bodies, for shared narratives, for sensorial trips, and for tried-and-true anatomical and somatic tools that also can create a layered and emerging moment in dialogue or performance.
A collaborative exchange
The P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module will be facilitated by Stephanie Maher, Kathleen Hermesdorf, and Estefania Dondi.
During the P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module, we will share threads of release-based techniques, qi-gong and kundalini energy work, anatomy, respectful touch, and guided journeys for the soul-body. Queering, renaming, revising, reimagining — all of this has a place in the conversation, in this new environment. We hope to explore and invent new narratives together.
During the P.O.R.C.H. Exchange Module, we will share some specific perspectives, including:
Physical Body Research
Guided by Estefania Dondi
This collective undertaking is aimed at the exploration of movement and the use of the body on stage.
We will begin with a space of free movement guided towards the awakening of the body, the way the physical body is, as well as the state of mind and disposition toward movement.
Following this we will explore different physical states, the weight of the body in handling this, the use of different body sensations, textures, and levels, all through a guided improvisation.
Following this, will use more visual tools (maps, scores, drawings) for the construction of a specific scene. Each workshop will have the opportunity to create different spatial and movement situations. We work with different tools for the wider use of the body in space and in the scene.
This is not intended to be just a dance workshop, but rather a physical exploration of movement possibilities. To be able to use other tools such as drawing and sketching, to use the visual to find other corporealities.
