It’s 2018! We’re officially living in the future. We’ll be posting plenty more about 2018 soon, but for now, here’s a quick look back at the year just gone.
And wow, it went fast. 2017 whizzed by: a year of changes, developments, transitions, movement, and reconstruction. Ponderosa put on a giant programme of events, and initiated a whole new structure, and connected to new people and communities, and started trying to figure out how this new situation can be made more sustainable, more accessible, and more open. So much happened!
So, here are some highlights from the things that we experienced in 2017 — artistic, communal, political, interpersonal, extraterrestrial.
Remember, if you’d like to get glimpses of what’s happening in more-or-less real-time, we’re also on Instagram, Twitter and other similar things, so give us a follow, and hopefully we’ll see you out here soon! But for now, let’s take a look back…
At the beginning of February, the Poodle Bar — a Berlin offshoot of Ponderosa energies, steered by Agnė Auželytė — jumped into 2017 at Fehre 6 in Berlin, with a concert and performances, and cake.
The first big event of the season didn’t even happen in Germany! Back in February and March, Ponderosa on the Road went for its first outing, heading to Israel for three weeks of sharing perspectives, practices, and performances.
There were the early-spring residencies in March, which overlapped with Shelley Etkin’s Unearthing Equinox celebration in Stolzenhagen, as the ground thawed and the land came to life.
And as spring was slowly turning to summer, one of the bigger projects of the year kicked off — the building of the brand-new porch on the side of the Ponderosa Guest House.
And then the season started for real, with the first Burnt-out Artist Weekend of 2017, overlapping with Spoon Camp and Time Camp…
And then the first module of P.O.R.C.H. kicked off! June’s improvisation and training module saw the 2017 porchies get physical and radical.
Summer kicked into high gear after this, with performances, workshops, special projects, installations, research, jams, group collaborations, dance parties, meals, celebrations, and of course the annual Stolzenhagen Dorffest — all the way through to the performance marathon in July. Here’s just a quick taste of everything that happened…
And, as the summer workshops and events continued, there was also the general members’ meeting of Ponderosa.
Into August and September, there was the P.O.R.C.H. performance module, Garden as Studio, COLOR BLOCK, another Burnt-out Artist Weekend, Benoît Lachambre’s giant four-week workshop, and lots more.
In November, there was Ponderosa’s first-ever Fußball für Mädchen (football for girls) event, the first group of autumn artists-in-residence came and went, and then the second group, at both Ponderosa and Betonest.
And the year wound up with one more Burnt-out Artist Weekend, then Fire Camp with Tereza Silon, then the annual Poppy meeting, the launch of P.O.R.C.H. 2018, and now, coming up fast, the winter and springtime residencies in early 2018, and a whole season to come next year — we’re looking forward to it all, and hopefully you can join us here once it’s all happening!
The Ponderosa Blog is an ongoing experiment in putting one foot in front of the other, and one word after another, to transfer ideas in ones and zeroes to minds around the world and beyond. A rumble from a ruined speaker to maybe bring the gov’t. down, one sorry heart at a time. xo
