Open Call: Ponderosa Residencies, Spring 2018.
An open call for all artists, performers, writers, and researchers, of any discipline, age, gender or nationality, who would like to research, rehearse, and refine their work.
Ponderosa offers three residencies in February, March, and April 2018, with twelve places in each residency. Read on for all details!
Ponderosa is a place for writers, performers, and artists who would like to research, rehearse, and refine their work. Residencies at Ponderosa provide everything that is needed for deep and concentrated work, while also allowing for a collective experience, shared social spaces, and collective discussion and exchange with like-minded artists.
We offer one old farm, with two winter-ready heated studios, and endless surrounding fields, forests, lakes, and rivers in the area of the Nationalpark Unteres Odertal, right by the Oder river marking the border between Germany and Poland – all of this to trigger your imagination and creativity.
We offer both shared dormitory sleeping and single rooms. Participants share a living space and a kitchen with a cozy fireplace. Residencies often involve shared dinners, cats on your lap, deep thoughts, focused time, and the possibility for sustained creative work. Participants often share physical and artistic practices, as well as work-in-progess showings, discussion, and feedback.
…for a deep winter creative hibernation…
…to enjoy the last snow and celebrate the spring equinox…
…to catch the first spring breeze, and the first rays of approaching sunshine…
For the residency in February, costs are €480 (in shared dormitory sleeping) or €680 (in a single room). In March, and in April, residency costs are €385 (in shared dormitory sleeping) or €535 (in a single room). These costs are per person, and include accommodation, use of kitchen and communal spaces, studio use (Monday to Friday inclusive — details below), access to the Ponderosa Living Library, and other incidental costs (wood for heating, water, gas, internet, etc). Costs do not include food — generally, the organising of meals and food shopping is undertaken as a communal activity, discussed and agreed on by all participants.
Studio time. Studio time will be scheduled each week by the visiting residents. Since studios are shared by all artists-in-residence, collective effort is required to organize daily living tasks and to keep working and living environments clean, comfortable, and inviting. Studios are available Monday to Friday inclusive. On weekend days, studios are often used by visiting groups. However, when studios are free on weekend days, they will be made freely available to residency participants.
Collaboration. Ponderosa is a space built around collaboration, flexibility, community, and shared efforts among all who are here — if you or your group can also be flexible and collaborative, then that is how the place works best.
Funding. Participants in Ponderosa residencies are often able to participate through the assistance of various funding and support structures. Applicants who may need to apply for funding can rely on Ponderosa to supply letters of intent, information about residencies, and any other details that many be relevant to funding authorities. Applicants may find the new Ponderosa funding page helpful in this regard.
Available studios. Ponderosa has four available studios, along with myriad outdoor spaces for exploration and transformation. The studios are:
