P.O.R.C.H. Performance and Choreographic Synthesis Module
8. – 31. August, 2018 · Intense performance practice meets committed choreographic focus
The P.O.R.C.H. Performance and Choreographic Synthesis Module is a hybrid of thought and act. It requires a certain creative maturity from participants about their artistic and choreographic interests. At the same time, it commits participants to dreaming, devising, and performing spontaneous actions and events — to live the performative.
On the performance side: the module demands that all is art, nothing is art, and everything is art. We are a multi-disciplinary-medium of body, music, voice, site-specific action, improvisation, visual corporeality, video, light, and dance.
On the choreographic side: the module is a collective choreographic and independent coaching project, which works on preserving and developing our collaborative histories, nurturing new networks and deepening our relationships
within the international field of dance and related forms.
The module encourages a D-A-I-L-Y performance practice. This module is not for beginners but for experienced performers and or radically daring individuals! During the module, Ponderosa is teeming with activity, hosting workshops, concerts, films and performances.
But! We will also create methods for sharing questions and resources about how we actually make our performances. What are our choreographic borders? Aesthetics? Fine-tuning? Economics? Politics? Being part of the landscape? We hope to encourage and stay in an open dialogue about what is really available for each aspiring individual.
Energetically speaking, the atmosphere it creates is intense!
The P.O.R.C.H. Performance and Choreographic Synthesis Module will take place from 8. – 31. August, 2018.
Participants in the P.O.R.C.H. Performance and Choreographic Synthesis Module meet daily, for an extended time, within the swirl of the active Ponderosa festival atmosphere.
The module adapts to Ponderosa’s international public audience, and relies on the available activities to create a collaborative and conceptual stage. Participants must be able to work within this varied and layered set of conditions and be able to spare or focus their energy. Simply put, the priority is the act of performance, combined with the focus of choreographic intent.
There will be other workshops and residencies happening during the module, and this allows for spontaneous occurrences, social tuning, and the connection of activities within the module to related practices that are happening on the Ponderosa grounds.
This gives us a discussion platform for artistic and collaborative exchange, allowing the module participants to meet the other visiting guests and to be part of the general atmosphere that is created within the public workshop experiences.
The P.O.R.C.H. group process aims to discuss results and experiences we have had as viewers and makers. Can we understand what we have presented? Who is invited into the experience? Is it selective, exclusively private or voyeuristic? Whether it is an improvised event, a highly structured composition or a spontaneous explosion, we are available to support one another's performative and choreographic experiments.
P.O.R.C.H. facilitators and choreographers are active in the field of performance making and collaborative processes in multi-disciplinary art forms. We are not teaching any particular pedagogy, method or school of thought. This independent study and coaching philosophy encourages a cross-pollination of mediums and approaches. We use both common and risky spaces for motivation and moving. We use constant feedback about the artistic view and discourse we are shaping.
The P.O.R.C.H. Performance and Choreographic Synthesis Module provides access to performative commitment, constructive feedback, artistic exchange, all in the stunning natural beauty of the Brandenburg countryside.
If you feel that you are ready to jump into the artistic transformation that P.O.R.C.H. allows, please apply by email for either one or both modules. We highly recommend committing to both P.O.R.C.H.
