Mary Pearson (biog)

Mary Pearson is a performance maker, dancer, and improviser based in Liverpool, UK. In 2005 she co-founded Fool's Proof Theatre, which has toured nationally internationally in the UK/USA with devised pieces The Eagle Has Landed, Je Suis Dead, and their latest, It’s Uniformation Day, which played at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011.

A guest teacher of CI/Improvisation, Choreography & Performance at Liverpool Hope and Liverpool John Moore’s Universities (2009-2011), Mary leads ongoing classes in association with Liverpool Improvisation Collective (LIC), and has taught/facilitated at diverse artist exchanges in Europe/US recently including: Earthdance artist in residence 2012, E/merge interdisciplinary artist residency 2012/2011, Ponderosa (P.O.R.C.H) 2011, E.C.I.T.E 2011/2010, and Barcelona International Dance Exchange (B.I.D.E.) 2010. She is also engaged in curating/organizing various artist-led performance platforms and festivals in Liverpool (UK) and Berne (CH), such as Raw Roar Rare and If Only...! at the Bluecoat (Liverpool).

Mary earned her B.A. in English Literature & Studio Art from Oberlin College (USA) and studied physical theatre at Kiklos Teatro International School of Theatre Creation with Giovanni Fusetti (Padua, Italy). Currently, Mary is simultaneously teacher and student at the curious and exceptional Free University of Liverpool.

Her work draws from an extensive & diverse training background in classical and modern dance, CI, yoga, physical theatre, diverse theatre/interdisciplinary improvisation, visual art and writing. Her work is a rigorous investigation of identity and reality, exposing ridiculous, dark and dangerous sides of humanity.
